At this point in history, this Law of Truth is particularly
relevant, as we see ever-increasing sin and sickness around us. As we see these
troubles, it is tempting to create resistance around it. Resistance cannot be
used to secure peace and harmony, because it is not in accord with harmony and
order, which is the Law.
It is
difficult to not put up resistance to evil, because our natural urge is to
create defenses and fight off whatever threatens us with all we’ve got. But
creating resistance is merely a waste of energy that can and should be used for
better purposes.
Businesses
know about non-resistance; they make it as convenient as possible for their
customers to purchase their goods and services. They open their doors so that
the customers don’t have to. They make their products compelling and
attractive. And they put their bargain departments in the basement, so that
customers only have to travel downstairs, not up, to get to the products.
Many of us
tend to create obstacles to our progress and success. We get everything set up
to succeed, and then often at the last moment, we sabotage ourselves by
creating resistance. Speaking of poverty and discord chokes off our influx of
good. Do not work on getting rid of your thoughts of limitation; instead, work
on increasing your thoughts of prosperity. “The Law does not require us to work
over or against the things we do NOT want but it does require us to work with
and for that which we DO want.”
Taking
water as an example, an ocean’s origins are in the rivers, creeks, and streams
that come from mountain springs inland. A tiny stream is weak and meandering,
struggling and wandering between rocks and other obstacles along its way. As it
grows bigger and joins other streams, it becomes stronger and straighter,
taking far fewer detours to get to its final destination, the ocean.
As does the
stream, we must not let obstacles get in our way and stop our progress. We must
find a way to go around the obstacles with as much non-resistance as possible.
And eventually, we get stronger and our path becomes straighter, until we are
unstoppable.
It is
unwise to go through life fighting, opposing, resisting, and arguing. It
creates many obstacles and friction that only cause us harm, and don’t serve
any purpose. Instead, if we make little of the obstacles and keep our minds
trained on our objective instead, we will ultimately reach our goal.
If you find
yourself in constant conflict with those whom you meet, try simply smiling at
them instead. You may be amazed at how easily your life becomes by
trying a new approach. People around you will respond in kind, and your life
(and theirs) will improve dramatically.
Jesus spoke
about loving your enemies, and blessing those who would curse you. He did not
mean to become a door mat to them—he simply meant to extend a loving thought to
them such that all opposition and enmity disappears. If you don’t argue with
someone, there can be no disagreement or conflict. You can be right, and know
you are right, and that is all that matters. It isn’t important that your
opponent agrees with you. By raising yourself above hate and discord, hate and
discord cannot touch your life. Blessing others calls forth the highest good in
you. “Thus to live the Law with others about you does not especially favor the
others so much as it favors you.”
The words
“blessed are the meek” are similarly often misunderstood. You need not be meek
to other people, only to the Law, which is true power. If you believe you are a
door mat and a weakling, you should expect to be treated as such. Be humble,
but not weak. One must be strong and positive, though righteously meek.
Such strength is measured in mind and spirit, not muscle.
Meekness is
the strength you gain when you do not argue, become angry or boastful, and when
you do not insist on being right. Appropriate meekness can be witnessed when we
obey the Laws of Nature, by nurturing the soil, planting only the best seeds at
the right time of year. Then we see Nature rewards us with her bounty, simply
because we followed her Laws. We did not resist her, therefore we experience
the best possible outcome.
Try to be
like the little stream of water while moving through your obstacles, clever and
determined to simply go around them. Do not throw stones and boulders into your
little stream, by having thoughts of worry, doubt, fear, poverty, argument, or
complaint. Instead, remove all obstacles by blessing them, and thinking of them
as stepping stones towards your goal.
