Life is a mystery only to those who don’t take the time to understand it. As your knowledge and awareness grows, you will find that you are often amazed at things that happen (because the power of the Universe—inherent within you—becomes truly magnificent), but you no longer wonder why or how they happen.

Knowledge and understanding replaces fear and ignorance. The invisible becomes visible. The unknown becomes known. Once you understand the Laws, and learn to live by them, everything makes perfect sense.

God never intended that humans should be forever satisfied. We are always striving for something better. We want to have a bigger home, a better job, or more knowledge. Whenever we achieve or acquire one thing, soon another desire for something greater develops.

Therefore, advancing one’s life is the path God intended, and it is not only our right, but our duty, to always pursue something greater. We are entitled to a full and ever increasing supply of our every desire.

There are two important phases to the Law of Attraction: “desire” and “expectation”. Desire is a positive force that goes out into the Universe and forms a connection with the substance of that which you desire. Expectation is a negative force that serves, like gravity, to pull that which you desire towards you. Both of these phases must be complied with in order to activate this Law in an advantageous manner.

Should a person weaken or change his desire for a thing, that line of force that he has set up will become disconnected or will miss its goal. But if the desire remains constant and focused, sooner or later the desire will be met, either in part or entirely.

Giving is the first Law of all creation. An attitude of “getting” creates a congested state, a paralyzed condition, and limited action. As long as we maintain an attitude of “getting”, we shut out the spirit of giving, which limits the flow of good that can come to us.

As you pray, you must release your prayer into the Universe and let it go. On little things, such as the desire to locate a certain book, it is often easy to just send it out there and forget about it. And frequently, even with no further thought on our part, these things just come to us effortlessly. However on the bigger things, we tend to maintain a stronger attachment to them, such that we have not fully released them to the Universe to do Its part. Because we still have strings attached, anxiety and tension prevent us from receiving them back to us in physical form. We must release the pressure and let go, allow things to flow naturally out, and then back to us.

The simple act of praising God, or the Law, is one of the most powerful ways of quickening the receipt of our desires, to almost magical proportions. This principle has been around for thousands of years, written about in the Bible and other ancient texts. People in ancient civilizations (and those of today) often brought gifts for their Gods, and sang and danced to express their gratitude.

This does not affect God in any particular way, and you do not gain particular favor from the Universe for your actions. Rather, it affects you personally. Praise is complementary to faith. “Whereas faith is wisdom and understanding, praise is the application of that understanding.” Praise empowers your faith, and quickens your prayer to magnetize all the good around you. And it transforms all that good into the physical, for your utility.

Some people believe that the world owes them a living, and that they are entitled to something for nothing. Others believe it is holy to be poor during this lifetime, only to receive their due riches once they reach Heaven. Neither of these statements is true, once you understand the Law and its proper application.

The Law of Compensation states that only what is rightfully ours will come to us. If we work hard, yet do not see the just rewards, it is only because we are not applying the Law correctly. The Law is as reliable as hard science and math—it works the same way every single time. The supply and the possibility is always the same, and it is our job to use the Law appropriately in order to improve our condition.

At this point in history, this Law of Truth is particularly relevant, as we see ever-increasing sin and sickness around us. As we see these troubles, it is tempting to create resistance around it. Resistance cannot be used to secure peace and harmony, because it is not in accord with harmony and order, which is the Law.

It is difficult to not put up resistance to evil, because our natural urge is to create defenses and fight off whatever threatens us with all we’ve got. But creating resistance is merely a waste of energy that can and should be used for better purposes.

One of Jesus' most important lessons was how He taught His followers to have bigness of character. He demonstrated how to rise above the others, by always being the better person. No matter what people did to hurt Him, He always forgave them, and counseled others to always do the same.

When He spoke of man’s power to forgive sins, and his need for doing so, these teachings were very often misunderstood. Jesus’ take on “sin” involved the mind and the body, because He believed that when one sins, illness will eventually settle in if the sin remains unresolved. He taught that if you forgive sin, the act of forgiveness would imbue your mind with natural and healthy ideas. And this would affect your entire body, making it healthy and whole. This is the precise nature of some progressive natural healing techniques in use today.

Holliwell writes of Abe Lincoln, and how this great president started as a poor boy yet made it to the White House. Lincoln’s mother had taught him that “the beginning of wisdom is not imposed by discipline, but the beginning of wisdom is first the desire for discipline, the love of it, the voluntary choice of it.” From this he learned that discipline, and the love of it, leads to everything that makes life worth living. Every successful performing artist is such, not because they were born with a beautiful voice, but because they used discipline to master their art.

We are a disciplined society except in the area of our morals and our thoughts. We produce brilliant scientists, gifted athletes, and amazing technology. But we do not discipline our minds—we let them roam wild and free, with no sense of control. You cannot reach your goals and ambitions until you learn to discipline your mind and control your thoughts. Your mind must be in order, and your ideals in harmony with the Divine mind, according to the Law.

Most people believe that the laws of government are for the good of the people, for without them chaos would ensue. Yet they are not willing to believe that the Divine Law is even more important for human welfare and all of mankind. Some think that living by Divine Law would be living the hard way, when in fact the opposite is true. It is far easier living within the Law than without.

Many religions wrongly preach that God rewards and punishes, causes sickness and death, can heal illnesses, can be bargained with, and is partial to certain people. The result is that prayer is consumed with doubts, because there seems to be no assurance of the existence of Divine Law. But knowledge and proper application of the Divine Law is the secret to eternal happiness, peace, and mastery over all the forces around us. [Wow!]

Man was meant to succeed, and to enjoy all the riches in the Universe, according to God’s Law. The powers in every human being are inexhaustible and unlimited. We are meant to progress and expand our capacity, to explore just how powerful we truly are. And by working with the Law, we are denied nothing.

There is no limit to our possibilities, and there is nothing we can’t do, or have, or be. We have every resource imaginable at our disposal. We have incredible intelligence, and the answers to all of our questions are available to us. We can all develop a greater mind, and with it a great life. We just need to Know How. Practice will improve our ability to use the Laws to our benefit. Each of us has this inherent potential; therefore each of us has the ability to succeed greatly.

There is much, much more to this book than I have provided here. I have purposely left out a lot of the last chapter (the Law of Success), because in order to succeed, each person needs to take responsibility for his or her own progress. Take a step, take action. Take a chance!
